NIA arrests human trafficking racket kingpin Golam Jama in Durgapur

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested a man named Golam Jama from the New Steel Park area in Durgapur, West Bengal, on Monday morning for his involvement in an international human trafficking racket. Investigators raided his rented residence early in the morning and took him into custody within three hours. Jama allegedly operated a network supplying contract labor to Middle Eastern countries and Malaysia under the guise of working at tire shops and travel agencies, while also forging passports for illegal overseas transport.

Golam Jama originally hailed from Chhattisgarh, where he initially worked at a local tire shop before joining a travel agency, through which he allegedly established links with human trafficking syndicates. Around four years ago, Jama relocated to Durgapur, married, and rented a house in New Steel Park, where he lived with his wife and two sons. Neighbors noted that he remained reclusive, though his wife had occasionally mentioned his frequent travel to countries like Saudi Arabia and Malaysia without detailing the exact nature of his business.

The sudden early morning raid by the central investigation agency caught local residents off guard, as neighbors were initially unaware of the reasons behind the operation. Local confusion cleared only after NIA officials led a masked Golam Jama out of his residence into their vehicle following the search. The arrest uncovered his long-running human trafficking network operating across state and international borders under legitimate-looking employment covers.
